Vacancy Short Description : A fantastic opportunity to learn the full range of property maintenance skills, especially for someone with an interest in old buildings. Would suit someone who has studied construction but this is not essential.
Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-E or 9- 3. Apprentices need to be employed for minimum of 30 hours a week in the industry with a contract of employment.
Vacancy Full Description : Working as part of a small estate maintenance team assisting with repairs/renovations to a wide range of Estate property much of which are old buildings, listed for their historical features. The work requires a wide range of skills some of which will be taught through short courses. The apprenticeship would suit someone who has already studied construction and now wishes to add carpentry and painting and decorating to their skills set.
duties may include:
• Painting and Decorating
• Working on’ listed’ buildings which can include traditional skills
• Some manual digging work
• Fencing, iron work and third fix applications

Working Week : M - F 7.30a.m. – 4p.m. with breaks and an half an hour for lunch. 39 hours week

Personal Qualities : Someone who is organised tidy and systematic who can plan ahead who is flexible about where they work and is keen to learn a wide range of skills. A fit active person happy climbing ladders etc.
Skills Required : This will suit a practical hands on person who likes working both inside and out doors, who values the countryside and takes an interest in the care and maintenance of old buildings. A good communicator who takes a pride in being a representative of the estate. Who is accommodating and courteous when working with and around the occupiers of the properties listening to any concerns. An accurate, neat record keeper with good numeracy skills, who will be responsible about health and safety regulations. Once trained and instructed who can be equally capable of working on their own or as in a team of two.
Future Prospects : Opportunity to progress into a full time position for the right candidate. The right person will also be put through a range of short training courses to include plumbing, heating and basic electrics.
Training to be Provided : Qualification: Level 2 Carpentry Apprenticeship
College Attendance: one day a week at Easton Norwich Campus
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may be the occasional need to attend either the Otley or Easton campus for short training courses and tests.
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2018. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Shortlisting/Interviews - Shortlisting and interviews will take place throughout the duration of the vacancy ad. This may mean that the vacancy could close before the published cut-off date should suitable candidates be found.
Things to consider : This is remote rural location, the day will start in the estate yard and transport to the different properties is in an estate van, you will need to bring your own sandwiches etc as access to shops are limited. A full driving license would help but is not essential. Overalls and safety gear such as boots etc are provided by the estate.
There will be a mixture of outdoor and indoor work some in all types of weather , climbing ladders etc.
