Vacancy Short Description : We are looking for enthusiastic hard working apprentices interested in pursuing a career in landscaping. We work mainly on new housing sites for large housing developers installing new gardens and public open spaces; planting and turfing.
Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-E or 9- 2. Evidence of qualifications will be required. Apprentices need to be employed for minimum of 30 hours a week in the industry with a contract of employment.
Vacancy Full Description : The role will initially be shadowing and helping our experienced landscapers with their day to day duties under the management of one of our contracts managers which will include:
• Training in the safe use of machinery (lawn mowers, rotavators, hedge cutters etc)
• How to grade/level a garden ready for turfing or seeding
• How to identify and plant shrubs and trees
• How to carry out the regular maintenance of grass and shrub areas
• Possibly helping out arboriculturists with tree works and site clearance
At the end of the apprenticeship depending on level of skill and dedication there will be opportunities available for landscaper positions

Salary : £280.25 Per Week

Training to be Provided : Qualification: Horticulture Apprenticeship L2
College Attendance: No regular attendance
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may also be the occasional need to attend either the Otley or Easton campus for short training courses and tests.
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2018. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Working Week: 47.5 hrs 8 - 5.30 Mon - Fri. Unpaid morning break of 1/2 hour at 10am and unpaid lunch break of 1/2 hour at 1pm.

Things to consider : The vacancy is based outdoors in all weathers and temperatures; beautiful sunny days surrounded by flowers and beautiful scenery but also laying turf in the mud and rain. It requires hard work and the hours are long due to driving to some of our sites further away, but our landscapers love their jobs and it’s a worthwhile career to get into
