Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-E or 9- 2. Evidence of qualifications will be required. Apprentices need to be employed for minimum of 30 hours a week in the industry with a contract of employment.
Vacancy Full Description : Day to day jobs will include,
* Mucking out to a high standard, filling haynets, poo picking fields
* Turning out and bringing in (change of rugs etc)
* Grooming and general care
* Tack cleaning
* Tacking up, untacking and washing off
* Lunging and long reining according to experience
* Shadowing our experienced staff and learning new things.
* Opportunities to travel to competitions and assist with the preparations for shows
Learning from top level Olympic Bronze medal winner and UKCC level 3 coach
All equipment is modern and supports looking after top level competition horses.
Accommodation is available for this position if required.
Own horse a possibility for someone already out eventing

Working Week : 7am – 5.30pm weekends are rota’d

Personal Qualities : You will have a willingness to learn from the best tutors. You should be able to work as part of a team as well as work independently when required.
Skills Required : You will have a genuine passion to begin a career in equine horse care and be willing to learn. You must have basic equine knowledge (ie able to put a headcollar on and lead a horse comfortably). You will be hardworking, understanding the demands of a top class event yard. You will be flexible on your hours as business dictates.
Future Prospects : For the right candidate who shows a passion for the role, is an excellent time keeper along with a flexible work ethic, the long term future prospects are excellent.
Training to be Provided : Qualification: Level 2 apprenticeship in equine care
College Attendance: No College attendance
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may be the occasional need to attend either the Otley or Easton campus for short training courses and tests.
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour with effect from 1st April 2017. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.
