Vacancy Short Description : We are looking for a person who enjoys working with animals and loves the outdoors to become part of our small team and assist with our herd of 250 dairy cows and 130 youngstock
Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-E or 9- 3. Evidence of qualifications will be required. Apprentices need to be employed for minimum of 30 hours a week in the industry with a contract of employment.
Vacancy Full Description : You will be responsible for assisting with the milking, feeding and monitoring of the performance of the dairy herd working closely alongside the rest of the dairy team.
Your duties will include:
Milking the cows
Scraping and cleaning the cow accomodation
Bedding the cows and calves
Moving cows and calves
Monitoring cow health and welfare
Administering vaccinations and medicine
Accurate record keeping

Working Week : Approximately 40 hours Monday to Friday and every other weekend 5-10.30am and 2.15-6pm
Salary : £200.00 Per Week

Future Prospects : An apprentice would have the potential to progress to a herdsperson or herd manager position within the dairy industry in the UK or anywhere in the world. Well trained and professional herds people are highly sort after and the role provides both a high level of job satisfaction and remuneration in management positions. There are also increasing opportunities for share/contract dairy farming within the UK dairy industry.
Training to be Provided : Qualification: Intermediate Apprenticeship - Agriculture
College Attendance: BLOCK WEEKS
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may be the occasional need to attend either the Otley or Easton campus for short training courses and tests.
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour with effect from 1st April 2017. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.
